Hopeful Guru Teachings in Father Daughter Stories

Enjoy a Bouquet of Father Daughter Stories and Hopeful Guru Teachings inspired by the recent Experiences in Burlington and Croatia during the Guru Purnima Days

An Essay-Compilation dedicated to Guru Purnima sacred festival dedicated to honoring spiritual and academic teachers, celebrated on the full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashadha.

During the Guru Purnima weekend I’ve ‘uncovered’ these beautiful quotes from Shri Mataji’s teachings and they gave me joy; I felt they must be further shared. Maybe some of you had this experience, to see in one (or both) of your parents, mother or father, also a spiritual teacher, a guiding force.

If this is the case, I am dedicating this article also to You and your similar experiences and realizations.

So let us share with you a Compilation of Hopeful Guru Teachings in Father Daughter Stories related to Sahaja Yoga Meditation, Croatia and Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi.

Life’s Celebrations and Milestones include Joyful Collectivity and Sorrowful Farewells

On the same special weekend, while we had the opportunity to enjoy a Sahaja Yoga Meditation seminar and celebrate (a surprise!) birthday for one of our friends, on the same day (unknown to us at that time) the father of another dear friend left his material existence, across the oceans, in Croatia.

Therefore, when Shri Mataji says, about her father, that ‘He was actually my Guru as far as human beings were concerned, it brings in my attention the beautiful sharing of my dear friend about her own father, just after he passed:

A Sweet Remembrance of a Daughter about her Father – who in his last year of battling an unforgiving physical weakness, started meditating online to find some much needed relief and inner peace

The following images are from Croatia, flowers and heights that Ivan loved and appreciated

Ivan’s daughter wrote this about her father, Ivan: “He loved flowers. He would always say, ‘Don’t cut them yet in the garden, let them live..’ And when I did bring flowers he was always in awe of them. And admired their beauty and appreciated it”.

Ivan’s daughter continued: “I put my laminated picture of Shri Mataji (her spiritual Guru) in his suit pocket. May Shri Mataji protect him on his path.”

It is my way to honor this beautiful soul that welcomed also my family in his house up in the Croatian mountains, yet close by the Sea. He was not only a father, but appreciated as a protective angel by his daughters. We say, Rise Up High, dear Ivan!

This year we lived a ‘Guru Purnima’ day with such strong yet different type of experience. On one hand, people close to me enjoyed immensely, felt reinvigorated with pure energy and wonderful experiences in a collectivity made of wonderful people during our Halton yoga meditation seminar. Truly, joy all around! On the same day, a dear friend and one of us, was in a far fetched place (internally too), as she had to say her Good Byes to a parent, a protector and a gentle soul.

What gave her strength and solace? Her Guru. She mentioned Shri Mataji – as she also practices sahaja yoga meditation – in her messages, how thankful she is for her presence in her life, the fact that her Mother and Father meditated with her during such trying times, finding moments when the time was still, and they could appreciate the last moments of being together.

Let’s continue this Article with another Father-Daughter relationship that is related with the ‘Guru Theme’, with the following quotes from a transcript about Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi’s meeting with her disciples in New York, USA (October 29, 1982).

Shri Mataji is Talking about Her Father saying that He was actually my Guru as far as human beings were concerned

“My father – as I told you – was a scholar of Arabic and Persian – scholar, and he translated Koran into Hindi language. Still his book is not published, I don’t know why. He was a scholar of Sanskrit. Fourteen languages he mastered. But he himself said that ‘I don’t know why people get these ideas that [Mohammed-sahib] created a separate religion’.

He was himself a realized soul and he had tremendous respect for [Mohammed-sahib], for [Hazrat Ali], for Fatima, for Hassan Hussein. He told me all about Islam.

“My father who was a great realized soul, as you know he was a great master of Bible and a very big master on religions.

He was actually My Guru as far as human beings were concerned.

He told me about human beings, how they were, you see. [Laughs]

He told me that: ‘Till you really develop the thing for which You are here: the en-masse evolution process, don’t talk of God; don’t talk of anything. Because again You’ll create another Bible, and another religion will start and all the nonsense will start. So just shut up till then. And really, I’ve did that as he told.”

A Great Takeaway from This Article should be:

The Guru also teaches You how to Enjoy and Appreciate Everything

As part of our presentations of Sahaja Yoga Meditation and also in support of our “100 Seeds of Joy” community initiative that was born in Burlington (Halton), back in 2023, also in honour of Shri Mataji’s 100th Birthday Anniversary, we created a few slides with quotes of wisdom and images of our Guru – Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi.

Allow me to share some of them, as you might find them inspiring too!

“The Joy is an absolute quality. The Highest is that You become the Joy!”

You are advised to take the time to Read and Absorb the Quotes shared on the Slides, as well those shared in the Text-Compilation further below:

 “Go with your enjoyment.

Today you must have learnt that the Guru teaches you how to enjoy everything.

I hope you have learnt how to enjoy everything and to enjoy your life and spirituality, so that You live in eternal life.”

May God bless you all. Thank you very much. May God bless you.” (unknown talk from 1970)

“The power of Enjoyment is Inexhaustible!” says Shri Mataji

In a speech about the Kundalini energy’s powers, addressed on May 17, 1981 in the UK (Chelsam Road Ashram), Shri Mataji provided another gem of wisdom, for those of us that need to hear it, especially in difficult times:

“Feel happy within yourself.

Then only you’ll be able to see the Spirit.

“Don’t be miserable. There’s nothing to be miserable. We are special people, who have got the blessings of our Spirit.

We should all sing, laugh, enjoy with vitality. There’s nothing to feel miserable. I mean, after some time you’ll find really you’ll have to act to be miserable. It will be difficult for you to be miserable for more than five minutes (laughter). I can bet on that. Be happy people. Emit happiness, joy to others.

“Even a minute you feel guilty, just look at outside and look at the birds chirping, look at the sunshine, look at the beautiful Nature that has given you such a beautiful color and all that.

Look at that, and just take the beauty within yourself and without.

All these photos captured personal joyful moments we lived in Croatia – as an homage to Ivan

Enjoy a few more quotes from Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi – from the same speech about our own Kundalini energy:

“(your) Spirit is the source of joy, and that should be evident when you talk.

No inhibitions, no curbing, it’s complete freedom.

” Why not have the Blossom Time now?!

“We start thinking about it, we start worrying about it, there’s nothing like that. Our problems are solved, our lives are beautified, everything is so nice and good, just to make you happy. Still, if you are not happy, still if you are worried, then the Divine recedes, it recedes. It’s like sunshine. If you do not want to face the sunshine, you do not get it. You have to face the sunshine. You just don’t get it. Every tree moves to the sunshine, every leaf tries to be towards the sunshine.

They have innately built wisdom, in the same way you should be, and you will see that with this – your life will change completely. Every moment you’ll enjoy. Every minute of life you’ll enjoy. Everything that you do you’ll enjoy. Every small thing you do you’ll enjoy. The power of Enjoyment is Inexhaustible!

“I want you all to enjoy like that to drink that nectar of your Spirit, and to forget about all these artificial problems that you have.  You just enjoy, because now you are drenched in your Spirit. So enjoy that. Why worry?

Do not stop your progress by lingering with this load around your neck.

Let the Kundalini (energy) take you up.

But She likes light things – she’s a light thing herself, that’s why she rises. Everything that is heavy within you she’ll burn, but do not make yourself additionally heavy.”

A Great Advice from our Guru: Laugh at Your mechanism that is out of gear!

“All the Sahaja Yogis have a problem. And they have problems because of their past, because of their future aspirations. Now when you have problems, in Sahaja Yoga you have learnt how to overcome them. There are so many methods other than meditation – you know them very well that, you must know what is the chakra where the Kundalini is. Now, if the Kundalini has been stopped, by a certain chakra which is not working, you shouldn’t get frustrated about it. Supposing your instrument or your car has stopped on the way, what’s the use of getting frustrated with it? You have to learn the mechanism. You have to be a good technician and then you can manage it very well. So all the techniques of Sahaja Yoga must be learned and mastered. This you can only do by giving it to others and learning from correcting them and correcting yourself.

There is nothing to be frustrated. That’s the worst thing. If you get frustrated and unhappy with yourself then there is going to be a problem. You have to laugh at yourself and laugh at your mechanism that is out of gear. When you start identifying yourself even with the instrument, then you are not there. You are not the chakras, you are not the different channels. You are the awareness, you are the power, you are the Kundalini. So you don’t have to worry about all these things being not in their proper conditions. If they are not, you can solve it!” (quote from a 1976 Gudi Padwa talk)

Further below we are sharing two other articles, very different from this one and from each other. To be explored!

What a loving article and dedication to dear Ivan. A dutiful and proud father of 2 loving daughters and treasured husband. I witnessed his love for his family while in Canada and Croatia. Their love for him was priceless

Ioana, this is like a pure love letter to the universe. The images of Croatia capture a specialness about this tender moment of loss. It is helpful to read about Shri Mataji’s relationship with her father and all the polishing advice for the diamonds that we all are.

Like a big sister, you wrapped your love into this article, may it help us all when we are searching for comfort, at our times of need. It was emotional and yet uplifting to read. May pure love prevail, and heal their hearts.
