It’s time to Prove You that Good Things Happen on the Universal ‘Ia – The Romanian Traditional Blouse’ Day! Especially if you are also practicing Sahaja Yoga Meditation.
It’s time to tell you about this year’s ‘Universal Ia – Romanian Blouse Day‘ especially that on the same day our Cultivators of Joy offered a Free “Science & Spirituality” Event dedicated to the International Yoga Day.
Yes, Some Good Things Happened that day!

The photos above make a parallel between a painting evoking a traditional Romanian festivity that I found it in Romania, and felt how connected is with our local, Canadian -born “100 Seeds of Joy”, and how I personally choose to wear the Ia (Romanian traditional blouse) from time to time, even at work when it’s the ‘Universal Ia Day”.
Yesterday, on June 24, 2026 was the Universal Ia Day and I went in the evening to support the SYMN Team that prepared a Free Yoga Day Event in Oakville via the 100 Seeds of Joy Community Initiative
The Photo above has a Cool Story behind it and it’s from Yesterday’s Yoga Day Event offered in Oakville by the Sahaja Yoga Meditation Network of Volunteers
You should know that every year, on June 24 is celebrated the Universal IA Day – when the traditional blouse ‘ia‘ is celebrated by Romanians from everywhere – as they feel that it caries their national identity for them.
Sahaja Yoga Meditation Network of Halton volunteers has several volunteers with Romanian roots who love to include in some of the hundreds free multicultural and wellness events offered along the year, also traditions from their original home.
Meet Gratiela (she is in the photo shared below from one of our multi-cultural FREE SYMN events) who was a physics professor in Romania; she and her family made the decision to immigrate to Canada, and settled in Burlington where she discovered Sahaja Yoga Meditation. Gratiela shared her story (in Romanian) in this article.
So it happened that in the last few years, exactly on the Universal Ia Day (or around it), our team had some very significant events in the Halton region, and I made sure to wear the traditional Romanian blouse (hand stitched and definitively made of traditional fabric as well) and share its story with everyone present at these events.
I’ll share with you some examples, when I felt to act as an ambassador of the Romanian culture and traditions, here in Canada.
In 2025, I had the opportunity of sharing the Ia Day with almost 290 people (the vast majority young students) as well with about 400 people online, courtesy of the Mayor of Burlington who reposted the News (see below the screenshot with Mayor’s media post)
It is a pleasure and an honor to have the opportunity to introduce the universal beauty of the Romanian traditions and culture, including by wearing the ia blouse or the Martisor.
This year the entire Universal Ia Day day was special and marked by interesting stories that seemed to be pre-planned and coordinated by a Great Project Manager whose skills definitely transcend the limited human powers.

On June 24, 2026 (Universal Ia Day), as I do every year for many years, I decided to wear the Ia blouse wherever I had to go, without thinking too much about ‘where’ I will actually had to be. 🙂
What I knew for sure and booked the time for it, was that I will be meeting online with the WoS (Women of Success) group, thus honoring Victoria’s invitation for all women to wear their Ia and spend 30 min together. It was very Nice!
As you can see in the two photos above, each one had the chance to describe the ia they were wearing from which region of Romania and any story behind its needlework or fabric making. Some ladies had exquisite 100+ year old ia blouses!
Let me share with you some other Good Things that happened on that Special Day!
In the morning, I made a few trips, and eventually those led me to renew my driving license; without thinking that a photo will be required! So, I ended up wearing ia for my new ID that will last a few good years.
In that office, a gentleman asked me if I am Ukrainian, based on the looks of my blouse. Of course, I gladly shared with hm that it was the Universal Ia Day and I am Romanian. It was nice to connect and exchange impressions about both cultures.

I did not mind that question at all, as I already knew about the similarities between the Ukrainian and the Romanian cultures.
Two good friends of mine are Ukrainians and as you can see in the images above how both of them (Halyna on my right and Ekaterina on my left) enjoy wearing cultural elements (like their traditional blouse for instance) and some resemble to the Romanian ones. Also for example the beginning of Spring (such as the Martisor festival) is celebrated similarly.
“The power which nurtures the character and moral, is the culture” said Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi – the founder of Sahaja Yoga Meditation – who I met in Romania during her first Public Program in 1990, in Bucharest.
These days, I share Her universal spiritual teachings as a Canadian-Romanian Yogini here in Canada.

Shri Mataji praised the Romanians and asked them to find the joy of the spirit, respect their traditions and find our what is universal in their culture.
In the years to follow, following Her advice, as a young student in the post-communist era, I slowly discovered for the first time (as I grew up in the city, completely disconnected from the rural traditions that were still practiced there), the immense beauty and wisdom that the Romanian traditions carry for millennia; also I started enjoying the similarities with other cultures, and developed love and appreciation for all people of the world, for what they bring with their traditions and cultures to the common “Earth-culture” patrimony.
The following image is from the annual Adam’s Day Sufi Azeemia-Canada Event where I had the privilege to address the gathering as a Guest Speaker and to be interviewed. On both occasions I talked about the Romanian traditional suite I was wearing, as well about Sahaja Yoga Meditation.
The following photos is from the Free Festival of New Beginnings 2025 that our Sahaja Yoga Meditation Network of volunteers offered it in Burlington. The Romanian General Counsel joined the event with her entire family dressed in traditional ia! She addressed the gathering and congratulated our work in the community wellness field, then took photos with the “Romanian Yogis” from our Halton region!
As we were taking steps on the recent years’ memory lane, let’s go deeper, and meditate a bit on the following theme:
Explore More Quotes that shed light on How we can enjoy our own Culture and Traditions, as well become Universal human beings, connected to the shared “Culture of the Spirit” that allows us to Enjoy respectfully the Truth and Goodness found all around and in Every culture.
“You must know your own culture, you must know what you were and what you are now.“
“Unless you have knowledge of your traditions, who will respect you? Morning till evening you keep copying these people. Then who will respect you? You must know your own culture, you must know what you were and what you are now.”
“You should be respectful.
The more respectful you are to each other, the better it would be. That respect will create that peace within each other.
Our culture (of the Spirit) is going to be such that we will express complete peace within ourselves.”
Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi – excerpts mainly from her speech on February 7, 1985 in Bordi, India.
(themed mainly on the “Universal Culture of the Spirit” and growing from within through sahaja yoga meditation practice)

Let’s Wrap up this Article with the Good Things that Happened on the “Universal Ia Day 2026“, including a Really Cool Story that Exemplifies how by practicing Sahaja Yoga Meditation every day Connections are created that transcend the mental understanding, our Spiritual threads will Connect us All
Let’s get back on track to this year’s special day, after sharing with you photos from the past, as well some photos representing Romanian old traditions and culture.
I also took the liberty to share a photo with a meditation corner redecorated recently by a visiting family member, who chose a traditional hand embroidery received as a gift from a Romanian friend, with daisies I received the daisies during the momentous Flag Raising Ceremony marking last Friday the 20 years of Sahaja Yoga Meditation in Oakville (daisies symbolize the state of connection or union at the 7th crown chakra level, and a little statue representing the Eternal Child within – Shri Ganesha – that is all about innocence, wisdom, humility and Mother Earth.
It is grounding and sets the tone for what comes next.
Once again, on June 24 – the ‘Universal Ia Day’ – we united the Yoga & Meditation practice and knowledge, with the Romanian Culture. How did it happen? We did not plan it at all – it happened in a genuine and spontaneous (Sahaja!) way.
In the evening, the first participants joining our Free “Science and Spirituality” event dedicated to the International Yoga Day, started entering the room, some sat on the floor directly, while others chose to sit on the chairs.
It seems that a few have done Yoga before while for others, it was their first time both meditating and learning about yoga.
We have a photo from the beginning of the class, when the instructor was welcoming the new comers and prepared the presentation, that was in part created by another yoga instructor with deep Romanian roots.
That was purely a coincidence, because when the event was booked, nobody was aware that it falls on the “Universal Ia Day”, connected to the Romanian culture.
Yesterday was a very busy day on both personal and family level.
So on my way to the Yoga Day event, I was even wondering Why do I make the effort to join the event?!
We made family plans for the evening and I knew I had to leave before the end of the event, and did not want to disturb anyone.
I arrived late and before joining the meditation, I took a photo from the back with the gentleman checking his kundalini energy with his hand up above the head. The meditation was wonderful, deep and light (thank you Shivangna and team).
As the guided meditation ended up early, there were a few more minutes I was able to spare for the Q&A that followed.
Participants started sharing one by one their impressions and experiences (all positive!!) with their own kundalini energy during the sahaja yoga meditation.
Then, the discussion led to Ersin, the gentleman that was siting right next to me; the same one I singled out for a “memento photo” from this event.

When Two Complete Strangers Realize that They Shared Key Moments in their respective lives, that happened in Two Different Countries and Now they met Here on a Special Day at another Special Event
Shivagna mentioned that Ersin met Shri Mataji – the founder of Sahaja Yoga Meditation – in Turkiye, many years back.
Very soon, we both realized (Ersin and I) that we were there in the same room in Türkiye when the Sufi musicians were playing in the lobby of a prestigious hotel in Istanbul, for Shri Mataji – the founder of Sahaja Yoga Meditation – and a group of international sahaja yogis, almost 33 years ago !
At that time, I was a university student in Romania, and my first time visiting Türkiye with a large group of Romanian sahaja yogis (shortly after the Romanian revolution), and there were many New Beginnings in my life. That moment from the Istanbul Hotel, is still so vivid in my memory: I was listening for the first time to the Sufi music and experiencing palpable waves of energy coming from Shri Mataji and from the international group of deep yogis.
Those vibrations were swirling through me in the rhythms of that mesmerizing music that deeply touched my soul and moved the chakras in me in a powerful way; the music itself became a chakra energy workshop, opening unknown layers of spiritual realities within my entire being; I could never forget it!
As soon as I mentioned to the participants that I am Romanian and I am wearing the traditional Romanian blouse – Ia -, Ersin said: ” I also lived in Romania for a while in the times of the Romanian dictator”; to which I replied: “Me too; and I was there for the Romanian peaceful Revolution”, then Ersin said: ” I was there when the Romanians started shouting against the Dictator” , which amazed me because “I was there too!“.
What a serendipitous encounter on such a special day! Later I found out that Ersin is also a Yoga teacher.
Would you understand better if You were provided with a Visual Example of Synchronicity on Multiple levels? Maybe this photo I took just a few days ago in Burlington exemplifies what I am trying to say 🙂
On that day when we celebrated the International Yoga Day through a “Science & Spirituality” Free Event , honoring in a way the legacy of Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi who traveled all Her life around the world, teaching and helping countless of people with her individual and collective self-realization techniques of sahaja yoga meditation, we met here in Canada, a Turkish-Canadian and a Romanian-Canadian seekers of truth who were moved so deeply by the same spiritual teacher that we both maintained and grew further our love for Yoga and spirituality (through our entire lives).
Also on the day when naturally my loving attention goes to my Romanian roots, it was such a rewarding sign that it was A Good Thing to follow my intuition (that comes from my connection to the Collective All pervading Energy) and go to the class despite all rational reasons.
That was the best day all day to feel connected to my Romanian and spiritual Yoga roots at the same time, on the Day that We celebrated them both!

By the end I’ve shared with you some images I took from my visits to Romania, with one exception, the one with me and Ersin, on June 24, 2026 (Universal Ia Day) right after we ‘recognized’ that unknown to us, our paths crossed so many times, therefore we share ‘key memories’ from Romania and Türkiye.
