Take a Deep Dive into “SARASWATI” (videos and vidya)

Tribute Compilation to Goddess Saraswati’s Powers on Vasant Panchami Festival

“Saraswati is the Goddess of learning and Mahasaraswati – The Great Saraswati – is the Goddess of knowledge, which is pure knowledge. For Sahaja Yogis, it is the Mahasaraswati which is to be worshiped.”

Nature is being created by the power of Saraswati.

Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi – the founder of Sahaja Yoga Meditation

This article provides you with a deep dive into “Saraswati” – the energy, the divine principle and its subtle powers, including the influence manifested in our daily human existence. The knowledge (‘vidya’ in Sanskrit) that is shared in this compilation comprises quotes as well four videos that contain simple meditations with snapshots from the Canadian Nature. It’s important to mention that all components of this article complete each other, offering various angles and layers of subtleties and connections to its main theme. Most of the quotes from Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi – the founder of Sahaja Yoga Meditation – are extracted from a Public Program lecture offered at Caxton Hall, London (UK) on October 23rd, 1978. We wish to offer you an opportunity to experience pure joy and (further) enlightenment!

The creativity sense within you comes from the Swadisthana chakra and it brings a kind of dynamism in everything that your doing. There are many Sahaja Yogis who have never given a speech or orated anything nor do they know how to give it. But even if small kids start talking it is so surprising that it seems as if Goddess Saraswati is standing there. They talk such things that it is surprising. You can listen to this small kid’s recording here, you will be surprised that a seven year old kid gives such lecture that you will be surprised as if it is Goddess Saraswati who is speaking.”

Who is Shri Saraswati? What does “Saraswati” mean? What is Vasant Panchami?

(Notes from Mythology and Hindu traditions)

Shri Saraswati – traditional representation

Today is Vasant Panchami – The festival of Vasant Panchami is celebrated every year on the fifth day of the bright fortnight of the lunar month of Magha (January – February). This “Panchami” is also known as Saraswati Day, because it is believed that on this day the Goddess was born. As Diwali is to Shri Lakshmi and Navaratri is to Shri Durga, Vasant Panchami is to Shri Saraswati, the Goddess of art, creativity, knowledge, intelligence, attention and learning. She represents the free flow of wisdom and consciousness. She is the Mother of the Vedas, and chants to Her often begin and end Vedic lessons.

Saraswati literally means “the flowing one”. In the Rigveda it is said She represents a river and the deity presiding over it. In later mythology, Shri Saraswati was identified with Vach or Speech. The “flowing one” in an allegorical sense may mean speech also – perfect speech which denotes intelligence. On this Vasant Panchami day, Lord Brahmadeva is said to have created His consort Goddess Saraswati, infused speech into Her and bestowed the Veena in Her hands. She was thus named as Veena Vandini (veena player) and Vani Dayyani (recipient of speech). As the spouse of Brahma and the Goddess of wisdom and eloquence, She is known by various names such as Veenapani (holding the veena), Sharada (giver of essence), Vagisvari (mistress of speech), Brahmi (wife of Brahma) and Mahavidya (knowledge supreme).

Saraswati’s Influence manifested at human level

“First of all, those who think too much or those who create too much without Self-realization, those who express themselves in poetry or in literature or in music, you can say, in paintings, in all kinds of arts; if they are not realized souls, then they go to the left to the extreme or to the right. So for example if there is an artist, if he goes to the right gradually his paintings will become extremely violent expressions.”

Shri Saraswati as Subtle Energy and Power and Chakra Connections in the Subtle Yoga System

“Another chakra comes out of this Nabhi chakra and moves all around. This is called Swadisthana chakra. Swadisthana was made to manifest the creation. Whatever we create it is from Swadisthana chakra. This chakra has six petals. Shri Brahmadeva dwells here and Shri  Saraswati is his shakti (‘power’ in Sanskrit language). For example, any famous writer, or a famous saint, whatever original creativity human beings create, he creates by praying to Shri Saraswati. Saraswati is the prime authority of this (Swadisthana chakra). Even science has originated from this.”

Goddess Saraswati and Science

“Without Shri Saraswati, Einstein would have not known the theory of relativity.”

“If you study physics and if you have not known what is science of inside, you cannot understand Kundalini Shastra at all. If it cannot be related to the ultimate, it is a lost knowledge. Like the tributaries of the river, all the tributaries must fall into the big river Ganges to go into the sea. That is the end of all the knowledge and the knowledge that does not connect it with the superior knowledge is a waste. That’s why you will find so many big people came, they wrote books after books, they all just become nothing.

Only those who related their knowledge to something higher – even Einstein, a man of his caliber, he could not do without God’s ideas; Bernard Shaw could not do without God’s idea – all of them had to relate their knowledge to God’s knowledge. Otherwise, it is like a knowledge which has no roots. It’s a dead knowledge. That is why the rosary in the hand of a learned is given. Goddess Saraswati in another hand has got the rosary. Now rosary has the significance of the religious life.”

Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi – the founder of Sahaja Yoga Meditation

What is Veena? What is Veena’s subtle significance and connection to Goddess Saraswati?

Shri Mataji playing the Veena

“That’s why Shri Saraswati is created and has been given a Veena (stringed musical instrument), which is incredible. Veena in India is traditionally a primordial musical instrument, meaning the human being who is educated and knowledgeable, must know music the same as the worshipper of Shri  Saraswati.

Veena is the instrument which is the first instrument that was created – that is the primordial knowledge about aesthetics of sound, the primordial ideas about aesthetics of colors, the science of beauty.”

Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi – the founder of Sahaja Yoga Meditation

Interesting Differences between Shri Lakshmi (Nabhi Chakra’s Power) and Shri Saraswati

“The image of Saraswati is to be understood also very well, is the image of the goddess of learning. Of course, I’ve known many learned pundits in India and also abroad.

Lakshmi is a married lady but Saraswati is not. Learned people who are really of a very high quality, are little away, are little above, because they have to solve the problems for the society. They are not mundane type, they have to sacrifice a little of their married life and their personal life, because they are the people who have to give the vision to the society.”

“Now the Goddess of learning, Saraswati, wears white, white cloths because is a sign of purity. She is a virgin.”

Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi – the founder of Sahaja Yoga Meditation

What is Primordial Knowledge? How is the Whole increased? Why Balance matters?

That is the primordial knowledge about aesthetics of sound, the primordial ideas about aesthetics of colors, the science of beauty. He has to be a man who understands beauty, in its glory and not in its condemnation.

Such learned people are to be respected. And these are our ideals as far as the movement of your being is concerned. You have to move with the idea that whatever extreme you are trying to do, avoid it, be in the center and keep your eyes on the ideals that we have to have these other sides also. Otherwise only the nose will increase or the ears will increase or the eyes will increase. The Whole has to be increased by Balance, then only you can have the real joy out of it.”

What is the Greatest Thing of Getting the Joy? What’s the Right Purpose for Knowledge?

Young artists that practice sahaja yoga meditation contributed to a free public program offered collectively by Halton Sahaja Yogis on Feb 23rd

“But the greatest thing of getting the joy is Self-knowledge, is to know your Self. Once you have known your Self, it’s like a light which gives you a complete balance. Once you have known your Self, you will know the Collective Being and then you will know also that all this knowledge, whatever you have got so far, is for the use of the Collective Being within yourself [your Self].

Then you will be rightly using that knowledge for the right purpose, the wealth that you have cumulated for the right purpose. And then the real joy will come into you. And it has to be understood in its complete form and not in its part here and a part there. Those who lead such partial life, are imbalanced and can never be happy. As long as they are running, they may be, but when they stop, they’ll be very unhappy.”

Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi – the founder of Sahaja Yoga Meditation

Goddess Saraswati is for Happiness or Joy? Did you know about the 64 dimensions?

“So never confuse happiness with joy; joy is something very different from happiness. Do not seek happiness, but seek joy and blessings of God by which our lives are blossomed, that we receive all the dimensions as I told you that you all have sixty-four dimensions which are to be exposed, sixty-four dimensions all of you [have got]. But they are not possible to be even felt before Self-realization, so Self-realization is the first step which one should achieve.”

Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi – the founder of Sahaja Yoga Meditation

Goddess Saraswati and the power of Genuine Humility

“She (Saraswati) is a person of humility, so the person who is a learned has to be humble. If he is not humble, then he’s not learned according to the Principle of Saraswati. The person who is very much learned has to bow down with the fruits of his learnings, so that a person who is learned and thinks no end of himself is a person who has not yet learned fully, is a half-baked person and that’s why a egoist cannot be a learned man; a learned man is always extremely humble. That is the sign, because She is the Power which gives you humility, not humility of a businessman but a genuine humility She gives you. There are so many qualities and I think I’ll be able to write one day about them.”

Goddess Saraswati – Love, Creativity and Permeation Powers (Shaktis)

The basis of all creativity of Saraswati is love. If there is no love there is no creativity.

“So, all the activity on the right hand side (on the Solar energy channel), of Saraswati, basically has to end up in love. Starts with love and ends up in love.  Whichever does not end up in love, coils up and finishes off. It just disappears. So you can see that even matter which is not used for love just finishes off. The basis has to be love.”

One of the greatest quality of Shri Saraswati is that She ends up into subtler things. Like the Mother Earth will end up into fragrance. Music will end up into melody, like that whatever She creates ends up into something greater. Matter, whatever She produces, ends up into aesthetics. If matter does not have aesthetics then it is gross. So the matter gets into subtler things because it has to permeate, it has to permeate.

And that is how one has to look at your own lives, to make it a beautiful combination of love and matter.”

I remember growing up in India, my school had a picture of Shri Saraswati on the first floor, very similar to the picture posted in this article. We always used to bow down and wished Mother Goddess would bless us with knowledge. However, never in my mind I would have guessed the kind of knowledge I am now getting in Sahaja Yoga. Shri Mataji’s talks are just pearls of wisdom. Also, what an amazing article, capturing the difference between Saraswati and MahaSaraswati, something I was never taught in the school. Even the description of Veena is included in this article, which is perfect for those who never heard about this instrument before. I will share this article with my kids and others … to get to the pure knowledge, we need to refer to the pure articles, full of vibrations! Thank you dear Ioana.
