Honour the Thanksgiving with Native Indian Prayers and Sahaja Yoga Wisdom

Let’s Honour the Thanksgiving with Native Indian Prayers and Sahaja Yoga Wisdom – We will Listen to Indigeneous People and to Shri Mataji

Thanksgiving in America as I can feel and understand it,  has Native Indian roots. It will be about Giving Thanks to the Creator, reflected in all parts of His Creation. That includes our lives. And these Thanks have to be given in a Collective Way. This should be a Collective and Sincere Introspection, ultimately a Meditation on what gives sense to our Existence and to what sustains our existence –  in a state of Gratefulness.

The genuine Connection to Nature’s Elements, to Mother Earth, to any other Agent of Creation (or Divine Entity called Deity as well) while realizing the Oneness of all within the Creator, it is striking obviously similar in both Native Indian traditions and in Sahaj understanding and practise of this Connection =Yoga with Life.

We are Giving Thanks for what was already received, so we include the prayer-hope that we’ll become worthy to continue Receiving, that we’ll learn and become better in giving ourselves, further on. So below, I have included on these notes the intertwined Wisdom coming from Native Indian Source as well from Sahaj Source, all in a pure thread of Unity in front of the Creator and its Creation/Nature, acknowledging that these are reflected within us as The Tree of Life: the subtle system of  energy centres and divine qualities nourished by the motherly sap, the energy Kundalini itself.

Enjoy also the images that are all from Halton region, some are from the Crawford Lake where I experience each time my own Native Indian Soul. Let’s first absorb the advices from Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi – the founder of Sahaja Yoga Meditation:

“In collective sense we are all one, part and parcel of One Being. Then you are really acting as collective being and you are one with the Divine. Where the Sun is looking after you, the Moon is looking after you, the Winds are looking after you and the Mother Earth and all these elements — they are working. Ether, everything is working for you and you are so well-protected and blessed by this special quality to enjoy the joy. Then you really become sensitive to that joy, when you are one with the whole, like if supposing this finger or this finger is not one with the whole, is numbed out as it happens in leprosy, what happens that this finger becomes numbed out. Even if a rat eats it off we don’t know because there is no connection, no nerves acting, it’s insensitive in the same way if you are not collective and not bothered about collective you’re going to be dropped out. You’re not going to be there to enjoy the beauties of your own glory and that of the Collective.

So one has to understand that we have to be strong ourselves. We have to ascend and we have to be collective. It’s very easy to find out faults with others, very easy also to find faults also with Sahaja Yoga, sometimes with me. Better find faults with yourself. The rest I’ll look after. First you just find faults with yourself and try to understand others and love others and enjoy the company of others. This, once you decide that we have to enjoy, I tell you it’s so spontaneous. Just this decision, this faith within you that I’m going to enjoy now my Spirit, I’m going to enjoy the collective within me, that’s the Spirit. Just this decision itself will give you the power to enjoy, but decision should be firm, no hypocrisy, no playing games, no ego, no conditioning, nothing, just pure desire within us that we have to be the Spirit. And the Spirit which is the collective being within us.

I hope today on this day of resurrection we have to be thankful to Christ very much for showing us the way. And also we have to be very much concerned and alerted about ourselves.

Where are we? Where do we stand? What are we up to? What are we doing? What is our responsibility? What is expected of us? Why all these blessings are given to us? There’s no sacrifice in Sahaja Yoga, no sacrifice. Nobody wants you anything to commit or to do or to membership or anything like that. I think it’s my commitment, as I said that God has the commitment but you also have one commitment that your desire should be pure. That’s the only thing, that let my desire be pure, no impurities of any kind, should work it out. As Christ had His desire, so pure, and that’s what He achieved. I’m sure you can all achieve a lot in your life.” Shri Mataji

We have been given The Duty

To live in Harmony with one another

And with other living things

We give Thanks that This is True

Somehow the above few lines I feel they contain the answer to all we have to be thankful for in Sahaja Yoga: to respect and pass further on to others what was given to us, as well to preserve and continue enriching this content. This article is a humble attempt to meditate on our potential for receiving and giving with responsibility during our open dialogue with the Creator-Creation Being (called Virata in Sanskrit) that contains us.

It’s all about a Thanksgiving we actually innately offer when we practise sincerely sahaja yoga meditation. A thanksgiving towards our divine components that we realize that are built in within us; that we experience during our daily meditations and energy (chakra) clearing techniques. Below are gathered few excerpts from Shri Mataji’s talks and from Native Indian prayers.. that I felt are important to be shared for us to imbibe with their message during our Meditation on Thanksgiving.
Everything is a continuous and nurturing flow of love and genuine joy. This is how we are taught because we have a Mother as a Teacher and she she has offered evertyhing to us, from the most gnostic knowledge to simple-close-to-nature techniques that actually work  (and sometimes they work miracles with our health and general well-being) plus, on top of all this, we can give forward and we can share our gifts. This day is also a Thanksgiving to Shri Mataji.
So we’ve became motherly teachers/gurus .. and what a mother would ask -if anything- from her children in exchange for her love, guidance and protection?! A mother gives because is her nature to give .. and we as sahaja yogis become likewise.. we don’t even realize that we give .. it becomes as natural as breathing .. Enjoy below more about the Sahaj Thanksgiving in a Duet of Peace and Wisdom with the Native Indian Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving to Your Spirit

‘So, should we go into meditation, all of us? Please close your eyes. All of you close your eyes. Now we all will do the meditation the way we have been doing in the halls whereever we had public programs. So the first you have to put your hand on your Heart. You work on the left hand side, and the left hand towards me. Now, first of all, you put your hand on your heart. In the heart resides Shiva, is the Spirit. So, you have to thank your Spirit that it has brought light to your attention, because you’re a saint and the light that has come in your heart has to enlighten the whole world. So, please, now in your heart, you pray that – let this light of my love of the Divine spread to the whole world. With all sincerity and understanding that you are connected with the Divine and whatever you desire will happen with full confidence in yourself.

Here you have to thank God that you have felt the ocean of joy and you have felt the ocean of forgiveness and the capacity to forgive. Let my heart expand and encompass the whole universe. And my love should resound the name of God. The heart, every moment, should express the beauty of God’s love.

Take (place) your right hand in the Vishuddhi (the 5th energy centre), that is on the left vishuddhi between the neck and the shoulder in the corner. (Pray/Affirm:) “I will not indulge into the falsehood of guilt, because I know it is falsehood. I will not escape my faults, but face them and eradicate them. I will not try to find faults with others, but in my own knowledge of Sahaja Yoga, let me remove their faults”. We have so many ways.. we can remove the faults of others. “Let me get that feeling completely, innately built within myself that I am a part and parcel of the whole, because we all have Atma (Sanskrit term for one’s Spirit). And let my concern go to the whole world to know what are their problems and how can I, through my true desire, power, solve that. Let me feel the problems of the world in my heart, innately, to remove all of them from the basis of which they are, from the basis from which they are generated. Let me go to the principles of all these problems and try to remove them through my Sahaja Yoga powers, through my saintly powers.” (excerpt from Guided Meditation and Introspection with Shri Mataji, 1988, UK)

‘So if we could put our attention to this, how we could be more beautiful inside, when we are touching others hearts, how we could be very pure in our expression, genuine in our expression, not artificially. Like we have seen also that even we are superficial you’ll say “Thank you very much, thank you very much, thank you very much” and you don’t mean it, it’s just a lip service you don’t mean it. But in Sahaja Yoga when you want to thank you see it is really heart felt you say it from your heart, you have to put your hand on your heart otherwise you just can’t say it, it is that way that we should feel and once you open that heart fully, opening of the heart is very important and that, unless and until you can do it you cannot enjoy anything in Sahaja Yoga because the heart where resides the Spirit and it is the Spirit that emits the joy.’ (Shri Mataji in1989 -Indian Tour -excerpt)

Thanksgiving to Your Own Kundalini

‘Now at Sahasrara (7th Chakra, on top of the head), you have to thank.  At Sahasrara, put your hand (on the head), move (the scalp) seven times, and thank (to Kundalini Mother) seven times. Mother, thank You very much for the realization. And Mother, thank You very much for making us understand how great we are. And thank You very much for bringing all the blessings of the Divine. And thank You very much for raising us higher, much higher, than from where we were. And, also, thank You very much for sustaining us and for helping us improve ourselves and correct ourselves. ‘  (excerpt from Guided Meditation and Introspection with Shri Mataji, 1988,UK)

‘The first thing is that Kundalini is the Devi (the Goddess), she is the reflection of the Adi Shakti (Primordial Energy/Power), so when you worship Devi first you worship also your own Kundalini by giving her credit because she has given you this realisation. It’s much deeper understanding than normally people have about the Devi Puja because they are not realised souls, their Kundalini is not awakened, so normally when they do Devi Puja is for the purpose of getting realisation so that the Devi should be pleased… and should give them realisation (awaken their Kundalini) or must give them a chance to get to somebody who will give them realisation. But you are at a different level now, so it’s more of a Thanksgiving to your own Kundalini and to Adi Shakti glorifying that whatever has happened so miraculously is because of the Kundalini which was within you, which was reflected by the Adi Shakti.. ‘ (08/10/89 – Talk to English Sahaja Yogis in Margate,UK)

The Bible and Sahaja Yoga say: The Content is the Point

But one has to know that only we are realised souls is not the point, only that we can feel the vibrations is not the point, that we can give Realisation (awaken the Kundalini energy) to others is also not the point. Then What is it very important? Is The Content within us, What do we have within us is the point.

These are all the expressions of what we have within. Supposing somebody is generous, then know that he is a rich man, otherwise he cannot so the content within us, we have to see and when we start seeing the content, where do we find in the nature there is the real content, we see the sea, sea is there you see full of water, so much of water it sucks in from everywhere and then it allows itself to boiled by the sun and gives rain, but sea is the lowest level, stands at the lowest level and sucks in all the water from everywhere, the same a Sahaja Yogi must know that to be really achieving more content we have Not to be at higher level outside. It is said in the Bible you have to be meek, but I think it was not explained to people, only the strong people can be meek, secure people can be meek, only the rich in essence can be meek, not the people who are insecure because they’re insecure how can they be meek and not the people who we think are rich, so called, because if they are rich they are not generous, they are not satisfied, they are not philanthropic, so they are not rich, they are still greedy beggars, so the content within us is to be seen, what is our content, you love me, I love you, its very good, but when you love me, you have to know that there are certain qualities which are very loveable in a Sahaja Yogi.’ (08/10/89 – Talk to English Sahaja Yogis in Margate,UK – excerpt)

A rapport between the humility of the ocean and the heights of the mountain

‘Actually people get lost, even after Sahaja Yoga, they think they can get over everything, are perfectly alright and they are thrown overboard. So when we say that we have to be meek, this is a content, the humility is a content. Strive to that, try to be humble with someone, you’ll like yourself, you’ll enjoy that quality within us. You see I’m humbler than another person.. What is another thing we find has content?! Are the great mountains, because they have heights and they are the only ones who can capture the clouds.. For such a rapport there is between the humility of the ocean and the heights of the mountain, that’s how a Sahaja Yogi should be, he is too high because so much of content is there in that ocean, then it has become beautiful, like clouds and touched his height, his Kailasha (peak in Himalayas), where resides the Shiva (the Spirit), so it’s so joy giving. Of course as you have painted me there, is true that was my situation once upon a time, today also it is my situation, no doubt in a very subtle manner, because there’s so much of negativity and I have to work it out on all kinds of levels, there is no excuse for some human beings to be a devil, no excuse and for a Sahaja Yogi, there’s no excuse at all, but still once I have called you my son, my child there’s a little blessing goes, I would say a long rope, but that long rope one should not care for, we have to care for your own quality, for  your own inner capacity to suck in. ‘(08/10/89 – Talk to English Sahaja Yogis in Margate,UK -excerpt)

A THANKSGIVING PRAYER FROM THE IROQUOIS (SENECA) PEOPLE – Excerpt

Gwa! Gwa! Gwa!
Now the time has come!
Hear us, Lord of the Sky!
We are here to speak the truth,
for you do not hear lies,
We are your children, Lord of the Sky.

…..

Now in the beginning of all things
You provided that we inherit your creation
You said: I shall make the earth
on which people shall live
And they shall look to the Earth as their Mother
And they shall say, “It is She who supports us.”

A Haudenosaunee “Thanksgiving” Prayer

Thanksgiving Address
GREETINGS TO THE NATURAL WORLD!

The People
Today we have gathered and we see that the cycles of life continue. We have been given the duty to live in balance and harmony with each other and all living things. So now, we bring our minds together as one as we give greetings and thanks to each other as People.
Now our minds are one.
The Earth Mother
We are all thankful to our Mother, the Earth, for she gives us all that we need for life. She supports our feet as we walk about upon her. It gives us joy that she continues to care for us as she has from the beginning of time. To our Mother, we send greetings and thanks.
Now our minds are one.
The Waters
We give thanks to all the Waters of the world for quenching our thirst and providing us with strength. Water is life. We know its power in many forms – waterfalls and rain, mists and streams, rivers and oceans. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to the spirit of water.
Now our minds are one.
The Fish
We turn our minds to all the Fish life in the water. They were instructed to cleanse and purify the water. They also give themselves to us as food. We are grateful that we can still find pure water. So, we turn now to the Fish and send our greetings and thanks.
Now our minds are one.
The Plants
Now we turn toward the vast fields of Plant life. As far as the eye can see, the Plants grow, working many wonders. They sustain many life forms. With our minds gathered together, we give thanks and look forward to seeing Plant life for many generations to come.
Now our minds are one.
The Food Plants
With one mind, we turn to honor and thank all the Food Plants we harvest from the garden. Since the beginning of time, the grains, vegetables, beans and berries have helped the people survive. Many other living things draw strength from them too. We gather all the Plant Foods together as one and send them a greeting and thanks.
Now our minds are one.
The Medicine Herbs
Now we turn to all the Medicine herbs of the world. From the beginning, they were instructed to take away sickness. They are always waiting and ready to heal us. We are happy there are still among us those special few who remember how to use these plants for healing. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to the Medicines and to the keepers of the Medicines.
Now our minds are one.
The Animals
We gather our minds together to send greetings and thanks to all the Animal life in the world. They have many things to teach us as people. We see them near our homes and in the deep forests. We are glad they are still here and we hope that it will always be so.
Now our minds are one.
The Trees
We now turn our thoughts to the Trees. The Earth has many families of Trees who have their own instructions and uses. Some provide us with shelter and shade, others with fruit, beauty and other useful things. Many peoples of the world use a Tree as a symbol of peace and strength. With one mind, we greet and thank the Tree life.
Now our minds are one.
The Birds
We put our minds together as one and thank all the Birds who move and fly about over our heads. The Creator gave them beautiful songs. Each day they remind us to enjoy and appreciate life. The Eagle was chosen to be their leader. To all the Birds – from the smallest to the largest – we send our joyful greetings and thanks.
Now our minds are one.
The Four Winds
We are all thankful to the powers we know as the Four Winds. We hear their voices in the moving air as they refresh us and purify the air we breathe. They help to bring the change of seasons. From the four directions they come, bringing us messages and giving us strength. With one mind, we send our greetings and thanks to the Four Winds.
Now our minds are one.
The Thunderers
Now we turn to the west where our Grandfathers, the Thunder Beings, live. With lightning and thundering voices, they bring with them the water that renews life. We bring our minds together as one to send greetings and thanks to our Grandfathers, the Thunderers.
Now our minds are one.
The Sun
We now send greetings and thanks to our eldest Brother, the Sun. Each day without fail he travels the sky from east to west, bringing the light of a new day. He is the source of all the fires of life. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to our Brother, the Sun.
Now our minds are one.
Grandmother Moon
We put our minds together and give thanks to our oldest grandmother, the Moon, who lights the night-time sky. She is the leader of women all over the world, and she governs the movement of the ocean tides. By her changing face we measure time, and it is the Moon who watches over the arrival of children here on Earth. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to our Grandmother, the Moon.
Now our minds are one.
The Stars
We give thanks to the Stars who are spread across the sky like jewelry. We see them in the night, helping the Moon to light the darkness and bringing dew to the gardens and growing things. When we travel at night, they guide us home. With our minds gathered together as one, we send greetings and thanks to all the Stars.
Now our minds are one.
The Enlightened Teachers
We gather our minds to greet and thank the enlightened Teachers who have come to help throughout the ages. When we forget how to live in harmony, they remind us of the way we were instructed to live as people. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to these caring Teachers.
Now our minds are one.
The Creator
Now we turn our thoughts to the Creator, or Great Spirit, and send greetings and thanks for the gifts of Creation. Everything we need to live a good life is here on this Mother Earth. For all the love that is still around us, we gather our minds together as one and send our choicest words of greetings and thanks to the Creator.
Now our minds are one.
Closing Words
We have now arrived at the place where we end our words. Of all the things we have named, it was not our intention to leave anything out. If something was forgotten, we leave it to each individual to send such greetings and thanks in their own way.
Now our minds are one.

Simply beautiful !! What a great compilation from Shri Ma’s talks , weaving them with ancient Native prayers and traditions, laden with tons of cool vibrations !!
I would like to add that also ancient religions were set upon similar lines. Zorashtrian religion revealed by Prophet Zarathushtra, also has liturgies in praise addressed to Deities looking after the elements, like Ava Aradvisur Banu looking after flowing waters, Govad looking after the winds, Adar looking after the fire , Bahman looking after the animal kingdom, etc. etc. Also, ceremonies of “Jashan” are held atleast once annually to thank the Divine for all the bounties received and “Ghambars” are community dinners where all are invited to participate in collective feast, where the rich and poor, high & low mingle together to offer a thanksgiving to “Ahura-Mazda” – the Universal Lord –for all the blessings received during the year.

We gather our minds to give thanks to Shri Mataji as our enlightened teacher who brought us Sahaja Yoga, who gave us the ultimate truth about ourselves (that we are the pure spirit) and who has transformed us into beautiful collective people.

  9. Taneli Myntti

    Thank you…

i liked the native prayer especially.

I was in Cabella 2005. Something i remember which i did not fully understand then.

In 2005 i was staying one night in Doria’s meditation room. As all the lights were already switched off, i suddenly saw some light coming that was filling the whole room. Very soft light pulsating sort of on-off, like a lighthouse. I tried to see were it came, maybe outside through the window, but no. It came from a small starlike dot above Sri Mataji’s picture. Five or six times it lit the whole room softly and gently. In the prayer above it was said that “when we travel by night, the stars guide us home”.

So thank you to all the stars.

    Taneli

A wonderful article, needs to be shared with as many sahaja yogis as possible.

  13. anaic

Natives Americans are so much connected to Mother Earth and for such a long time… They have understood from within what is the link between human beings and the rest of the creation : we all are part and parcel of the One God.
Thank you for pointing out these common points between Sahaja Yogis and Natives, members of the same family.

What a journey through this amasing wisdom with our dear Mother and our dear brothers and sisters from Native peoples. The deep prayer in the honoring our blessed land and all her creation in it’s many forms. We are all diverse in our lights of many colours and all one in love.

    On Thanksgiving…

Last night at the Friday evening class Isabelle asked me if that was me who had written about the Condors in Chile… I said “yes”…

The thought that came to me, and the one that I want to share was also a part of my reply to Isabelle…

“The reason I often respond to articles and thoughts expressed by others is simply to allow myself… to hear myself”, so what I am learning about myself and others in each moment is that there is nothing to fear about stepping into the unknown, into uncertainty and so on… as long as I am willing to take responsibility for everything that I say and do”.

So, for that I am grateful… thanks for sharing your thought with me Isabelle.

    1. adrian/arie

      “Thanks Giving”…

      “When you are Me…
      Then I AM…
      Free”!

      What does this mean?

    2. Isabelle

      to continue…
this morning the first thing I will think of is gratitude. As I walk out I hear the birds are singing on top of their voices showing their gratitude. I believe they are singing God is great as the sun is rising announcing it to the waking world.

  17. Priti

Thank-you Ioana for sharing this article. I had a beautiful morning meditation with these powerful words of wisdom and Divine knowledge. Very big THANK-YOU to SHRI MATAJI

  18. Patient Guedenon

Thanks. It is a beautiful article and it has taken me into meditation and instrospection.

    1. paula

I am drenched in goosebumps, cool rivers flow through my central nervous system. The indigenous prayers just pouring through my being, the teachings of sahaja yoga are so tuned in to awakening this ancient wisdom.

We are the spirit, thankful to the Great Spirit. Sahaja Yoga is the method by which we can “know our Self” and measure the absolute truth about everything through the language of vibrations, the 4th and 5th dimemsion of ourselves. Extremely, humbly grateful for the selfless teachings of Shri Mataji who ordained this gift to humanity. It is a new reality, it is a chance to feel bliss, to heal the world, to ascend, to the spark evolution of humans to live in harmony, to empathize, to be sustainable and to feel peace and a return to joy. I am grateful every day and have so much love and respect for our indigenous brothers and sisters, megwetch, namaste.

  19. Shivangi

Beautiful article, thank you for sharing. Thank you Shri Mataji for everything.

  20. paula

The depth, the timelessness, the beauty of this article cannot be measured. The vibrations of Shri Mataji’s words are absolute.

I have been trying to explain the meaning of thanksgiving to my husband for awhile now as he is still “new” to Canada and our traditions. This article is so universal that I want to pass it on to many of my family and friends. I found so many answers here. It is always like that when we pay attention to nature, we are grateful, and we nurture the gift of seeing others, and ourselves like a compassionate witness. It is such a great power that we can achieve through Sahaja Yoga…the power of being protected and of being a detached witness to our lives,to rise above our minds, and enjoy our enlightened spirit.

It cannot be said better than Shri Mataji’s explanation:

“Here you have to thank God that you have felt the ocean of joy and you have felt the ocean of forgiveness and the capacity to forgive. Let my heart expand and encompass the whole universe. And my love should resound the name of God. The heart, every moment, should express the beauty of God’s love.”

Every word resonates to my core. Also wanted to share on a personal note that I was boarding a plane from Mexico bound for Montreal and was surprised that there were many passengers responding to me in English, rather than French, so I switched languages and expressed my surprise to them. The response was “we are from the Mohawk tribe, there are 160 of us that are travelling together.” From that second the vibrations started to fill the plane. There was such a peace emitting through the air, even during the safety demonstration, I felt vibrations swirling in the air. I was witnessing first-hand that the Mohawk people are so connected to the mother earth and so grateful and so spiritual that there is a flow of peace and happiness that filled me and the entire plane. I enjoyed their presence on the plane so much, it was like a gift, we were all connected, I felt the oneness. It was, is and always will be beautiful to nurture the spirit and be grateful for the gifts that life has given us.

  21. Vivek

It is really surprising how the Native Indians and the ancient Indians (those living in India) developed the same kind of prayers.

In Hindu scriptures, before any form of worship (puja), the deities looking after fire, water, sun, moon, planets etc. are ‘invited’ and a part of the offerings given to the main deity are dedicated to these deities. So that’s like a form of thanksgiving!

Also, I was really amazed when I read that the Native Indians give thanks to the Enlightened Teachers who are called as Satgurus in Sanskrit and we know them as Primordial Masters in Sahaja Yoga.

  22. Jolanta

    Great article!
    Thank you

  23. NITI

Thanks Ioana from my heart for this truly amazing article about the true meaning of Thanksgiving with the gratitude towards creator
and it’s creation with the divine innocent prayers of native people and the emphasis they have given to the collectivity in each and every prayer that is amazing and thanks to relate this knowledge with the sahaja yoga knowledge.

  24. NITI

I forgot to add in my comment that your picture with native people is amazing. It looks like that Sun’s Golden rays are sparkling on mother earth,It’s truly amazing. Thanks for sharing..
