Overview Free Preview About the Author

Many years ago Shri Mataji asked one of the first Sahaja Yogis in the UK, to write a book about his experiences. He is hoping that people who are caught by drugs will read it, and that it might help them, so he has not held back about his time before Sahaja Yoga, when many who were growing up in the sixties and seventies were so lost, but so desperately seeking. Beautiful account of his meeting with Shri Mataji in the last part of the book, and how she helped him. This is the story of a search for the magical and profound amidst the pressures and distractions of the modern world, a chronicle that includes a rich store of reported experience in higher states of consciousness. The trail leads through strange territory. The author was, in his own words, a reckless individual with many failings, driven by things he did not understand. His journey encompasses childhood hopes and fears, love won and lost, alcoholic excess and psychedelic drugs. He vividly portrays the extraordinary properties of LSD, charting initial wonder and revelation and ultimate frustration and disillusionment, before telling of his first encounter with a most unusual yogi lady. The book gives a candid account of the astonishing things he learned and experienced in her company over a period of many years.

Journey Within is the story of our spiritual ascent, both as individuals and collectively.  It is found on Amazon here.

Journey Within

With equal parts instruction and inspiration, the book beautifully describes how we have gotten where we are today and our essential next steps. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi gave more than 3000 recorded talks all around the world. Whether it was a village school, a medical conference, a gathering of UN employees or a suburban hall on a hot summer evening, her central words were the same: introspection, ascent, inner peace and – most important of all – a realization of our true self. With humor and love, she both guided and listened. From the opening words, “My father felt that I would do something great,” we can sense the trajectory of this tale. And we know too that we are bound for that same greatness. With this book, Shri Mataji reminds us of the journey we are all on. And the direction of that journey is always the same. It is a Journey Within.

Sahaja - Book by Christopher Greaves

A new book of interest to seekers and Sahaja Yogis has just been published. It is called SAHAJA and is written by Christopher Greaves, an English Sahaja Yogi. The book is published by Authorhouse and is a fine production with a beautiful cover using acid-free paper throughout. It is also available as an e-book. It can be ordered from Amazon, Alibris, etc., or from Authorhouse itself.

Please note that all profits from the sale of this book will go to Sahaja projects.

To reveal a little more about this book, here is a brief interview with the author….

Q: How long have you been practicing Sahaja Yoga?

A: Since the summer of 1978, when I met Shri Mataji in London.

Q: Tell us a little more about yourself.

A: I live in Bristol, in the west of England. I’m a writer and academic. I was married in Sahaja Yoga and my wife Ruth and I have four children who are also Sahaja Yogis.

A: What’s the story behind this new book of yours?

A: A long time ago, Shri Mataji told me to write a substantial book about Sahaja Yoga, beginning with the story of my own seeking. In the mid-1990s She encouraged me by saying that although She was getting sent a lot of books about Sahaja Yoga, She was waiting for this one. It went through various stages before I finally felt happy with the approach, content and style, and SAHAJA is the result.

Q: Who is this book for?

A: Everyone. In the first place, of course, it is meant for all serious seekers of truth. It offers them a rounded understanding of Sahaja Yoga and a thorough grounding in its practice. In fact, the principal aim of the book is to provide a guide that will help those of us who have had our realisation to begin to establish ourselves in this great yoga. Beyond that, the book includes plenty of stories, prayers, invocations, and so on which will be of interest to all Sahaja Yogis and which I am sure they will find enjoyable, consoling and illuminating. Finally, this book is meant to serve as a kind of sanctuary for our attention – which, as we know only too well, gets attacked from morning to evening in present-day Western society. My idea was that, when reading it, we should feel secure, comforted, meditative – and happy.

Q: How would you describe the approach you have taken in this book?

A: It’s an integrated approach. I have tried to write it in such a way that the head and heart are combined here. As an academic, I wanted it to be intellectually sound, logically structured and clearly articulated; while as a writer, I wanted it to be as beautiful and literate as possible. What I didn’t want it to be is in any way dull, cheap or superficial. After all, we are speaking of the Mahayoga here – and therefore the style should, if possible, be a noble one, while at the same time being inviting and accessible to the reader.

Q: To finish with, what would you say is special about this book?

A: Hopefully, it’s the substantial book that Mother me asked for. Above all I have sought to write it in such a way that sensitive readers will feel at once: there is truth here. Instead of writing a book that points at Sahaja Yoga and says, ‘That’s the truth over there,’ I have tried to make this book a true example of Sahaja Yoga itself – a sahaja work of art in its own right. In other words, it is meant to be substantial in the sense of ‘substantiating the truth of Sahaja Yoga’ rather than in the sense of being jam-packed with references and information about the chakras and so on – although it is informative too, of course.

Q: Sounds like I must read it…

A: Please do, and I hope you’ll like it. In fact, I hope you’ll love it!”

In time maybe you could put also a list of books written some years back. Sometimes we forget about books we read 10 or 15 years ago.

    Hello Shey from Cameroon!

I lived there for a short period which was such a wonderful experience. Please keep sharing your experiences, Shey, and Ioana please let me know if I can help send materials for Cameroon. It is a beautiful country and I am very fond of the many varieties of cultures that exist just in Cameroon alone that are living together very peacefully. I have some beautiful pictures of my time there. I am thinking of an article…

Last year on a very special birthday during THE R. A. I.N. TO HEAL MOTHER EARTH free public programs, Arvind presented me with the book “For want of Wonders” as a gift. It is a marvelous book beautifully written, full of great vibrations as I read it. It really surprised me and gave me insight on how I may be inspired to write one day.

Also Journey Within I have given as a gift many times for friends that are great seekers of truth. All the books offer layers of insight into the reality of our “be-ing”. Thank you for this list of wonderful books to start or rather to supplement building a Sahaja yoga body of knowledge. Many more books available through sahaja yoga clases and seminarss offer so much insight about the chakras and the pure knowledge that is gained every meditation class. Great idea for article!
